Acupuncture for Pregnancy

Prenatal Care

Acupuncture is a helpful and supportive way to prepare a woman's body for pregnancy, as well as support it throughout. During pregnancy lot of blood, energy and nutrients go into nurturing the growth of a fetus which affects every woman individually.

Pregnancy

First Trimester:

  • Morning sickness

  • Fatigue

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Dizziness

  • Headaches

  • Anxiety & Stress

  • Risk of miscarriage

Second & Third Trimester:

  • Back, pelvis and hip pain

  • Constipation

  • Leg & ankle swelling

  • Heartburn

  • Hemorrhoids

  • Breech or posterior baby positioning

Labor & Cervical ripening

Acupuncture is sometimes said to be used for induction. I like to say that leading up to the due date we can help to soften the cervix and prepare the body for labor. If over the due date we can do stronger stimulation to encourage the body to enter labor.

Postpartum Care

After having a baby a woman's body can use support and nourishment. Acupuncture is a great way to help to do this. It can help with:

  • Low milk supply

  • Fatigue

  • Post-partum sadness or depression (recommended to seek professional counselling as well).

  • Mastitis

  • Muscle pains

  • Scar therapy
